If you are troubled by vampiric appliances — TV, DVD player, coffee maker, computer — sucking power from the wall even when they are turned off, plug them into a power strip — AKA plug strip or surge protector — to really turn off these appliances. (This is certainly more convenient than unplugging them from the wall!)
