Insulate your attic more. Most homes have 4-6 inches of insulation in the attic but should have 6-12 inches instead. Upgrading to 12 inches can cut heating and cooling costs by 1/10. If you are installing additional batt insulation over the attic joists, put it at right angles to the previous layer.
